Surnames: BYRD

Submitter: Debbie Lewis  Date: 29 Dec 2002

Hello,

Are you searching for the family "Byrd"? My grandmother who's maiden name was Byrd (Ida Estelle Byrd). Her father's name was James L. Byrd and mother, Priscilla (don't know her maiden name). James L. Byrd and his family were on the 1920 and 1930 census for Harmon county ,Oklahoma. I can't find him has a child anywhere. The census says that he was born in Arkansas in 1870, but I haven't turned up any record of him.

He may be of indian descent, but that could be just a family rumor. If you know of any information on him, I would appreciate it if you would email me with the information.

Surname: PETERSON

Date: 9/14/2002 From: Nancy Peterson Pardo

Please add PETERSON to your list.

My great-uncle Martin Peterson and his wife Annie O. “Ossie” Jones Peterson lived in Harmon County at the times of the 1910 and 1920 censuses and afterward. Both are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Mangum.

I have just started researching my great-grandparents, Peter and Mattie Christina Peterson, who originally immigrated from Denmark and moved to a farm southwest of Duke, Oklahoma shortly before 1900 and remained in the area until their deaths in 1928 and 1922, respectively. Tena (b. 1875), Annie (b. 1879), Martin (b. 1881), Mary (b. 1883), John T. (b. 1995), and William M. (b. 1898) Peterson were their children. All of the children were born in Texas except Tena, who was born in Illinois. Annie Peterson married Awlcie Carter and lived in the area. Tena Peterson married Oscar Denton around 1901 and was in the area until at least 1910; after that, we have no idea where she or they may have gone. Mary Peterson married Doc Star (or Starr) around 1906, and ultimately settled in Lubbock, Texas, although we don’t know when they moved. John T. Peterson married Dewey Darby and remained in the area; he is buried in Rock Cemetery in Duke. William McKinley Peterson, my grandfather, married Katy May Tyson and lived in Duke, then eventually moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he and my grandmother lived until their deaths with their 5 children and numerous grandchildren close by.

Thank you, Nancy Peterson Pardo  Fort Worth, Texas

I'm searching for information on Mollie Luck b. 23 Dec. 1863 d. 17 May 1927 wife of George Henry Luck b. 09 Jan 1859 d. 09 July 1932. I have found a listing that they are buried in Bitter Creek Cemetery Hollis, Harmon County, Oklahoma. I have also found a listing of G.H. Luck in Sandy Cemetery with the same death date and age listed. It also states that he was from Hanley, Tx., I'm wondering if this is a misprint and could be Handley, Texas. My Great GrandMother Mollie Lewis Bratcher married a luck. My family is from the Arlington and Handley area's of Texas.

I'm also looking for information on Mary Sieber Mitchell b. 24 Oct. 1910 d. 31 Aug. 2001. She was married to Elbert Mitchell 10 Dec. 1927 and had 3 children: Charles, Floyd and Betty Woodruff.

I am interested in any history available regarding the old one-lane iron bridge over the Prairie Dog Fork of the Red River between Harmon County and Hardeman County TX. I would be interested in dates of construction, who built it, who financed it, how long it was a toll bridge, and who maintains it these days.
