PERSONAL

William PENN'S house in Philadelphia is now a drinking saloon of the lowest class.

Dr. J. L. STEWART of Erie, Pa., has just received a telegram stating that his son, Lieutenant Reid STEWART, of the fifth United States cavalry, was killed by the Indians near Tucson, Arizona, August 27th.

The Emperor NAPOLEON had to leave the seaside of Bognor, in Sussex, because the inhabitants "stared at him so rudely" whenever he walked out. Sussex, let it be recorded, belongs to England and not to Yankeedom.

The European monarchs are generally fond of horses, and good ones, too. Queen Victoria's horses are valued at $50,000. King William's at $6?,000. Francis Joseph's at $140,000, Victor Emanuel's at $19,000, Czar Alexander's at $53,000, Leopold of Belgium at $90,000, and the sultan's at $500,000.

Michael and Terrence BYRNES, two bachelor brothers, who emigrated from Ireland to this country nearly half a century ago, and who had lived in New York together ever since, died Saturday morning, in Harlem, only two hours apart from each other, in their eighty-ninth year.
