CLARKE - At San Diego, Cal., April 18th, Reverend Charles Russell CLARKE,
eldest son of Charles Lee CLARKE of New York, formerly of this city, and
brother of Mrs. Charles B. HILL.
--Charles CLARKE, whose untimely death is recorded above, was a young man of
great promise; he was graduated at Princeton, New Jersey, ordained to the
Christian ministry, and located in San Francisco about eleven years ago. His
talents, his graces of mind and person, and his pure and blameless life, won
for him the friendship and goodwill of very many in the distant field he had
chosen for his labors, and the future was rich in promise for him, but an
insidious disease brought him to the home appointed for all the living while
he was yet in the vigor and prime of early manhood. He leaves a wife and three
children to mourn, with parents and brothers and sisters, their loss, and to
them will be extended, in this the hour of their bereavement, the sympathy of
many friends in this city, where the deceased for many years resided. He was a
patient sufferer, gentle and loving to the last and died in the triumph of
that faith which his life illustrated continually, and in the just hope of a
blessed immortality.
