Jason BAKER was elected Treasurer for nine months, to fill a vacancy in the office. The Legislature amended the law relating to the tenure of this office, so that the Treasurer shall take office on the 1st of October instead of January. As Mr. BAKER's first term expired on the 1st of January, and his second does not commence until the 1stof October, there was an intermission of nine months to be filled. Mr. BAKER thought that under the law, he held over, but the Board thought otherwise, and elected him to fill the vacancy. We know of a number of men in town who would give thirty or more men a good supper and champaign, for the office of Treasurer for nine months. We do not know that Mr. BAKER is "one of em."
