DROWNED IN THE CANAL -- On Tuesday evening last, John WADDLE, a Frenchman,
aged 49 years, was drowned near the junction of the Erie and Genesee Valley
Canals. Coroner STONE held an inquest this morning. Verdict of the jury,
accidental drowning. By request of the family, a post-mortem examination was
held by Dr. McKAY, in consequence of the discovery of some bruises, but the
verdict was as above stated.

DROWNED AT FAIRPORT - On Monday evening last, about 9 o'clock, Andrew
HICKEY, a laborer, for some years a resident of Fairport, started from
Parker's grocery, with a pork-barrel upon his shoulder, for home. He never
arrived there alive. On Tuesday afternoon, his body was recovered from the
canal, near the warehouse. It is supposed that in passing along the narrow
wharf between the warehouse and canal, he made a misstep and fell into the
water. He was some 45 years of age, and leaves a wife and three children.
No inquest had been held when our informant left.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS yesterday fixed the salary of the Superintendent
of the Workhouse at $1500. A law was passed compelling the destruction of
Canada thistles in the highways of this county -- Messrs, ROOT, SMITH and
CURTIS were appointed a committee to receive proposals for doing all the
printing of the Board, and the calendars of the Supreme Court of this
county. Dr. H. H. LANGWORTHY was on Monday appointed Physician to the
County Jail.

FATAL ACCIDENT IN PARMA - We learn from J. C. AUSTIN, Esq., of Parma, that
while two young men were engaged in falling a tree, one of them was
instantly killed, by the tree falling upon them. His name was John B.
RANDALL. The young men were in the employ of M. S. KING.

POLICE - Mr. S. BUTLER yesterday gave bail to the Sessions, to answer the
charge of an assault and battery on Henry WALL. He also gave bail to
keep the peace.
Michael MADDEN was sent to the Workhouse for
drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
Wm. GOOD belies his name, in that he abuses his
wife. He this morning gave bail to keep the peace.
There were several poor lodgers, who went their
way.
