Conviction of Henry WOODEN - A man of considerable wealth, named Henry WOODEN, residing in the town of Victor, was indicted, tried and acquitted, something over one year ago, at Canandaigua, on a charge of causing the death of his wife, some six years previous. The treatment of WOODEN to his wife had not been kind, and the singular circumstances attending her death gave rise to suspicion. Her body was found one morning in a well near the house where she resided. No indictment was found against WOODEN, at the time of his wife's death, but, some five or six years afterwards, his son's wife went before the Grand Jury, and procured his indictment. She was a domestic in his family at the time of the death of Mrs. WOODEN. She also caused WOODEN to be indicted for a rape upon her person, and this assault doubtless induced her to reveal, what knowledge she possessed, in relation to the alleged murder. The indictment for rape, obtained some year or more since, only came to trial last week, and resulted in the conviction of the accused. Sentence has not yet been passed.
